TMI about TMT

My name is Andy Dass. In the fall of 2017, I started Tangletown Math Tutors, LLC. In addition to being its founder, I’m also the company’s CEO, CMO, president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, most-senior intern, and most importantly, sole math tutor. I’m proud to say that I’ve won Employee of the Month every month of TMT’s existence.

I graduated from St. Olaf College with a BA in Mathematics, and have nine years of experience as a classroom math teacher. My first year out of college, I lived in Washington D.C. and taught 8th grade math in Alexandria, VA.  I then moved back to The Land of 10,000 Lakes to teach math at Washburn High School in Minneapolis. For most of my time there, I lived a short walk from the school in the wonderful Tangletown neighborhood, which as you may have guessed, was the inspiration behind my company’s name. I’m an IB certified, Grade 7-12 Licensed teacher. I have Several Years of experience teaching IB SL Year 1, IB HL Year 1, and IB HL Year 2. I’ve also taught several sections of Algebra 1 and Algebra 2. Teaching this variety of classes was an invaluable, fun experience, as it provided the opportunity to work with students of wide-ranging math readiness. I’m a firm believer in the motto "effort creates ability."

A few years into my teaching career, I started receiving requests from area families to tutor their students privately. This proved to be both fun and rewarding, so I decided to switch gears and make tutoring my primary focus. I’ve tutored students from all over the Twin Cities, in courses ranging from 7th-grade math to 2nd-Year Calculus. One benefit of this career change is that the more flexible schedule allows me to be a stay-at-home Dad. From 7 am to 3:00 pm, I am home with my daughter Bryn (she’s Almost two years old at the time of this writing). In addition to tutoring and Fatherhood, I’m also working on a Master’s in Mathematics through an online program. This fall, I’ll be taking two courses - Group Theory and Probability - while also serving as a Teacher’s Assistant.
